Marukai Market

Grocery shopping in a Japanese market is not always that easy…

It’s good to know someone who knows japanese!

A friend of a friend of a friend open up a shaved ice cafe right off Sawtelle and tonight was the soft opening. I am a huge fan of ice cream, but I am still to get used to the idea of shaved ice. To me it’s like eating snow and a little bit of a culture clash.

Din Tai Fung

We went to Din Tai Fun in Arcadia for juicy dumplings. They have two locations just around the corner from each other and there’s always at least 45 minute waiting time for a table on both locations!

I dont eat pork or beef, but the chicken and the veggie dumplings are well worth the wait.

Youth Lagoon at Origami Vinyl

We went to see Youth Lagoon play a few of his songs at the Origami Vinyl in Silverlake before his set at the Echo next door.
It was really good and we tried to get tickets for his show later on but it was all sold out. Oh well, maybe next time!

Indeed.

Hanging out in a record store gave me flashbacks to 7-10 years ago when I used to spend all my money on records.

Halloween on Shaefer St

I never cared too much about Halloween until last year when I got to experience handing out sweets to trick or treaters. I thought it was so much fun that I invited myself over to Shaefer Street again this year.
We spoked out the house so the kids know were home.

I feel bad when the small kids get scared, but if they have an older brother or sister by their side, they can usually not resist a big bowl of candy!

Michael Jackson stopped by as well!

Family Time

Funerals sucks, but I got a couple of bonus days with my family which is always appreciated! Playing hide and seek in grandpa’s backyard!

Feeding the birds with all the left over bird food we could find, the bird’s gonna be extremely happy, cos there were a lot of food!

Taking Off

Heading off to Sweden for to say a last good-bye to Grandpa. Not feeling so hot but a pepto-bismol, yoghurt and a Sam Adams is a good base for a 15 something hour flight, right?

Oktoberfest

It’s already the end of October and we have not had a chance to go to any Oktoberfest parties this year, so we had our own beer tasting party. We picked up a few different kind of beers that we all could share.
Started with a smoked porter from my favorite Stone Brewery.
Starting off with a smoked porter might not be the best choice, as it is pretty dark with a lot of flavors. We moved on to Fullers Organic Honey Dew and I think we’re gonna have to give this beer a second chance as it dint taste much right after the porter.

I’ve seen the Ninkasi beers on the selves for a while now, and I think I’m gonna have to try them all.

I think Rouge might be my second favorite brewery after Stone.

Finishing off with a bang!

Saturday

We had no real plans for the day but headed over to Fandy’s for brunch. My second attempt to drink a bloody mary – still not a big fan.

This may be one of the best chocolate bar in the world.

Winnie and Leo had a couple of pieces in a photo exhibition so we went to check it out in the evening.
