Paper Lotus

We had a ceremony to honor my friends dad who just passed away. It was a lot of folding papers involved in the ceremony.

A lot of folding paper involved, in fact, that was pretty much all we did.

My friend is still in Taiwan, attending the real ceremony. We put her on skype so she could see what we did here in LA!

Then back to some more folding.

Finally done with the folding! My hair is getting long again yo!

After a few hours of folding beautiful Lotus flowers and other stuff, part of the ceremony was to burn it all.

Farmers Market

There is a Farmers Market every Sunday, just a couple of blocks away from where I live. I told myself I should go as often as I could but the whole summer went by and I had only been once. Ive been busy doing hikes and other things every Sunday. I was super exited when I woke up this morning and had nothing planned so I could walk over to the market and see what the season had to offer!

I have never been much of a meat person but love fresh fruits and veggies. I also strongly believe in supporting the local farmers rather than buying products that have been traveling from across the globe.

Here is some of the stuff that found its way down my shopping bags. Now I’m forced to eat at home for the rest of the week – which is a good thing I suppose!

My Favorite Wall

This is my favorite wall in Mar Vista – my neighborhood. I just recently discovered it and think its the fairly newly opened hair saloon that are located on the other side of this wall that are held responsible for it.

Movies

I have seen a lot of movies this weekend, it started off on Friday night when I went to see 500 Days of Summer.
Today was Labor Day and we had the day off. Yesterday my friend and I was trying to figure out what we should do. We didn’t want it to be one of those usual Venice Beach days. We were thinking of going to Santa Barbara, San Diego Zoo or Catalina Island for the day but we were not really feeling any of it, so we decided to make a movie day out of it. We both had a free ticket to use, and the plan was to get to the theater in the morning, use our free ticket and see how many other movies we could sneak into before we got caught and got kicked out (and probably banned from the theater).
We started off by going to Trader Joe’s to buy some sandwiches that we could sneak in.

The first movie was Ponyo, an animated movie from Japan.

Then we saw All About Steve

Third one was Timetravelers Wife, we came in a little late to this one and missed the beginning.

Then we had a 40 minutes break, which we spent in the gaming room.

We didnt get caught and could easily walk in and see Taking Woodstock as well.

We could have continued throughout the night, but were both a little tired and thought it was about time to go home and do homework.

Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day is unofficially the last day of summer. It’s still hot here though, and it doesn’t really feel like the summer is over. The beach was crowded today!

I did a lot of walking today – around 5+ hours, had a lunch break in between and the restaurant had these games at the table. I don’t remember what they are called, but I used to have one when I was a kid.

I didn’t win this time, I think my opponent was cheating!

More of Tangey

I’m still taking care of my friends cats.

Her TV was acting up a little funny when we were there today!

Patti Smith at the Pier

Last night was the last night of free Thursday night concerts at the pier for the summer. Patti Smith was playing and I was really excited about it. Unfortunately, I did not get a lot of sleep the night before, so I pretty much slept through the entire Patti Smith concert.

Ween

I went with a friend to see Ween in concert at the Grove in Anaheim last night. I was not very familiar with their music before the show and got a little skeptic when I was told that they were gonna have a 3 hour show. I usually like the shows short and sweet!

But it was not bad at all, and the 3 hours felt like nothing. Ok, maybe they could have shortened the set by 20 minutes or so.

Tangerine

I was reminded of how much it sucks to be so far away from your family yesterday.
I’m taking care of my good friends babies while she out of the country taking care of her family. We are all waiting for her to come back so we can take care of her!

W, this one is for you. Tangy and Whitey are behaving exceptionally!

Monday at work

The best part of working at an in-house design department for a company is that you got to be one of the “cool kids”, it is kind of accepted, if not expected that while everyone else wears heels and skirts, the cool kids at the design department wears trainers and jeans. California Baby is very casual though, and no one wears heels and skirt, but when I came to work this morning, everyone was dressed up and super styled. I had totally forgotten that there was gonna be a photo shoot around the California Baby HQ and that we were gonna be featured on Next New Networks.

An hour before the shoot, I was assigned to do still photography while they were filming. Not a big deal, I have done it before and am kind of used to the deals and rules on when to and when not to shoot while they are filming. But, I wished they would have told me that I was gonna do stills so I could have brought my own camera to work. Now I was stuck with the compact point and shoot camera we have at work.

We finished the shoot 30 minutes before I was supposed to clock out for the day, and they wanted the stills sent out to the PR person at work before the end of the day. Great, I had 30 minutes to narrow down and edit 200 photos.
I am so used to shooting RAW now as well where you have total control over the image in photoshop where you easily can adjust colors and white balance etc. Today I was shooting jpegs and it takes a little longer and to edit the photos.
I was done and left work at 5:05pm though!
