Crystal Fighters at the Fonda

I was gonna do absolutely nothing tonight, but then I got a text “What are you doing tonight, wanna go to a show?’ Hell Yeah!

You know it’s gonna be a great show when the guitarist don’t even bother putting on a shirt to begin with…

Macallan Tasting

We went to a Macallan tasting. I am still not a whisky drinker, but I think my friends keep inviting me to these events so they can laugh at me making funny faces and then take my left over whisky after I had a sip.

What did I learn today? Hmm, not much, I should have paid more attention. I learned that the color of the whisky have nothing to do with the quality and that Macallan grow their oak in Spain and whenever they cut one tree down they plant a new one. Greenpeace approved.

Dana Point and Junip at the Troubadour

We wanted to surf Doheny State Beach, and after a quick argument we came to the conclusion that I (as always) and Google Maps were right, Doheny State Beach is in fact the same thing as Dana Pont, where we surfed a few weeks ago. Didn’t really matter though, as I really liked that place! The low tide made it easy and I was hanging out with all the 5 year old kids that were still better than me…

The best way to end a good surf weekend? Watch Junip at the Troubadour while having a beer and a greasy pizza!

Surf San Onofre

I have to say, I am still not that comfortable in the water, and when I come across a huge empty beach with a nice break, I keep asking myself; Is this right? How come no one is here?
I am also more comfortable with more people out in the water that I can keep an eye on to make sure I am not to far out and wont get caught in a rip curl (< thank you grandma for scaring me with rip curls as a kid…).  And also, other surfers can help keep an eye out for the dreaded sharks. I know sharks are actually our friends and they don’t want to attack people, but they still scare the crap out of me.
There were only a handful of people out in the water at San Onofre and no life guard on duty, but the water was nice and calm with a perfect break for someone who is still a crappy surfer like me so I wasn’t so uncomfortable. The only thing that creeped me out a little was sitting there on your board, dangling your feet in the water just waiting for a shark to come and take a munch. But then 5 dolphins made my day when they came up and played about 30ft away from us. Way cool! They only stayed for a little while, but it made me super calm. Someone once told me that if you see dolphins in the water you can be almost certain there will be no sharks out.
It it definitely time for me to get that waterproof camera!
The marine layer started to roll in around 3pm and it messed up the sunset, but still an awesome day of surfing!

New Chairs

I was gonna get the chairs my Great Grandfather made, but when I found out they were gonna charge me $2000 for shipping, I went ahead and bought a couple of knock off Eames Chairs instead. They were waiting for me in a box when I came home today, so stoked, they look awesome!

Primal Scream at the Fonda

I scored free tickets to see Primal Scream at the Fonda! I’ve seen them many times before, but the last time I saw them was 11 years ago in London… The Fonda is an awesome venue and Primal Scream did a great set!

I have to figure out the settings on my phone, why is it taking all these funky images?

More Culture Collide

I woke up and thought I should do myself a favor and hike up the Baldwin Hill. Once back down I noticed they had a Cross Fit contest. It looked exhausting, I am clearly doing something wrong.

I should have taking a nap during the day, but I am really bad with naps so by the time we got back to Culture Collide I was tired, I am getting old… but managed to stick around to see the Raveonettes play the Echoplex at midnight. I’ve always found this painting hanging over the mixer table at the Echoplex a little disturbing.

Culture Collide

I really like Culture Collide, but had not studied the bands this year, so I was a little indifferent as to what to see and where, I mostly just went with the flow…
