Family Time

We headed in to Laholm for fika.

Then home to train with my moms stallion.
My parents place;

Play in the pool before dinner!

The carport is coming along!

I love this dog, I’m gonna pack her in my suitcase when I leave!

What’s for dinner?

Oh shoot, you have to do your homework? Why don’t you stand there and read for us while we sit here and drink our beers?

Ale Stenar

Came back to my parents house and jumped in the pool. My cousin had left me two surfboards to bring back to Los Angeles, wohoo!

Amazing open faced prawn sandwich and a beer for lunch with my parents! Why don’t we get these kind of prawns in Los Angeles?

We picked up my sisters kids from school after lunch and drove down to the very south of Sweden and Ale Stenar in Kåseberga. Last time I was there was 27 or so years ago and all I remembered was the photo we had of me and my brother and sister sitting on one of the stones, so I was super excited to go back!

The little fishing village of Kåseberga of the southern coast of Sweden. The stones is just a short 10 minute hike up the hill.

Germany and Poland is there somewhere across the sea.

All these years, I thought this was gravesite and a Viking king was buried here. But it turns out they don’t really know what this thing is all about. It’s 59 large boulders that are raised in the shape of a ship and it’s laid out so that the sun sets over the two main stones during the summer and winter solstice, suggesting it is a form of a calendar. It apparently also has some connections to the Stonehenge in England. They think this thing was made about year 600 CE.

What do you do when you are 6 years old and you see a bunch of large stones? You climb them!

I think my niece is obsessed with butts. But why not, butts are cool!

Laholm

After a bumpy plane ride I finally made it to Laholm, Sweden. The weather wasn’t awesome but it is always good to be back where I used to run around as a little kid.
The Laholm Bay with the City of Båstad in the background.

The water wasn’t as cold as it looks.

My brother in law had bought a bunch of new local beers, I tried the Premiär, a lager from Båstad Öl, it was really good!

The weather got worst and it started to pour after lunch – is it gonna be like this all week? Fun times!

My mothers siblings and a couple of my cousins showed up for a family reunion crayfish party. I can never get enough of these little bastards!

They come with a beer and a shot by default.

Crazy Sunday

I didn’t actually run around like a crazy person today, but it kind of felt like it. Got a late 10am start on the day, had to do laundry, clean up my place a little and tap up the glogg in bottles. All before 1pm when the rooftop party at the Winn started. Then on to late night drinks at Bodega Wine Bar in Santa Monica.

Lazy Saturday

I set a goal when I woke up today – do absolutely nothing. But then I realized that’s no fun and I had a bunch of things I had to take care of.
Since I have custody of an old car, I kind of feel forced to take it out for a ride every other week or so to keep it running. What’s a better day trip than to go to IKEA?
I was gonna do laundry when I came home, but got a text message saying “come for a swim” soooo… I can do laundry tomorrow, right?

It was Annies birthday this week so we had to celebrate!

Sharks & Custom Burger

We rented kayaks and paddled around the marina for two hours, super cool and relaxing. I saw sharks!! We made it to Mother’s Beach and I saw a bunch of people on paddle boards pointing in the water and gasping “Sand Sharks!”. How cool! I’ve seen sand sharks before in Barcelona, little white harmless sharks that are about 3 feet with a cute little fin and teeth… I wanted to see so I paddled closer, and these were big suckers! They seemed to be as big as dolphins so I got a little freaked out and hurried away. I told the dude we rented the kayaks from and he said they used to hang out there and they could be up to 5 feet.
I know what I want for Christmas now… a waterproof camera.
Since we already were in Marina Del Rey and I love burgers, lunch at Custom Burger was a given!

Defrosting

I’ve heard you’re suppose to defrost your fridge every 6 months to save energy, and pretty much 6 months on the mark since I plugged the fridge in I discovered a huge block of frost. Good thing I don’t keep a lot of things in my fridge so it’s easy to empty it out.
Went to a birthday dinner at Figaro in Downtown LA, they had a few interesting beers, I tried Einstök from Iceland. Nothing amazing, but I like the label!

Glögg

Last years glogg was delicious, but I only had time to let it sit for 3 weeks and I want it to sit for at least 6 weeks this year, so I started super early!

Find the recipe here.

CicLaVia

They closed down Wilshire Blvd from LACMA to downtown LA for motor vehicles and open it up for bicycles!

Care fore some rum?

Aaah, so good!

Wait, was that a police just rolling by?

It was already past noon, so we had to stop for a beer break!

There were a lot of people downtown, I wish they did this more often!

This should be standard on all bicycles!

California Roots Festival

I am not a big fan of California roots music, in fact, with the exception of a few bands, I think it’s pretty crap. But I was invited up to the California Roots Festival up in Monterrey, and I had nothing better to do so…

Still had a lot of good time watching everyone move in slow motion.
