Dec 3rd, Firestone California Pale 31

After a long hike and we had decorated the Christmas tree it was time to open up the beer for today;
Firestone California Pale Ale from Firestone Brewing Company, Paso Robles, CA
I really like this beer, and I’ve had this beer many times before. Definitely a 5 out of 5!

Dec 2nd, Blue Moon Belgian White

I have to say I was a little bummed when I unwrapped today’s beer and found a Blue Moon Belgian White Belgian-Style Wheat Ale, from Blue Moon Brewing Company in Golden, CO. Blue Moon does not have much credibility in my book for some unknown reason and I am not a big fan of wheat or Belgian style beer. But then as I open up and poured the beer I could feel my mouth was watering. My taste buds are still a little off cos of my cold, but the first sniff of the beer was aaah! and the first sip was a lot better than I was expecting. I am giving this a 2 out of 5. It’s better than the Apricot beer I had yesterday but still not good enough for me to buy it again.

The label says;
A refreshing unfiltered wheat ale brewed and spiced in the Belgian tradition for a uniquely complex taste & an uncommonly smooth finish.
Brewed with wheat and oats, Blue Moon features a crisp wheat finish and the perfect combination of orange peel and coriander. Bring out Blue Moon’s natural spices by serving it in a Pilsner glass with an orange-slice garnish.

Dec 1st, Pyramid Apricot Ale

Super excited to wrap open the first Christmas beer! I got Apricot Unfiltered Wheat Ale from Pyramid Breweries (Seattle WA, Berkeley CA & Portland OR).
I think I’ve killed my taste buds with all the couch drops I’ve been eating lately for my cold that doesn’t want to go away, but I still think the Apricot Ale is a little to sweet for my taste. You could totally taste the apricot though, which is kind of cool. I give it 2 out of 5 – nothing I would drink again.

The label says;
Life is what you pour into it. Your thirst for life demands an offering that can match it. With the artistry of our brewing, we’ve created in every bottle an adventure worth sharing with friends.

Not a good photo day.

We picked up W at the airport and thought it’d be a good idea to get to there a little early and take some photos. Turned out, when we got there, that I was totally not in a good photo mood so I didnt get many good shots.
Once we got back home we started to decorate for Christmas.

The Christmas beers waiting to be open!

Beer Calendar

We had the beer exchange for this years beer calendar tonight. Here’s how the beer calendar works; (works best if you are 6 or more people who are in on it)
Everyone buy 4 six packs or beer each, plus an optional Christmas Day beer for yourself. Holiday Editions, rare beers, beers from a country you’ve never heard of, beers you’ve never seen before, beers you have seen many times but have never had a chance to try, beers you think are the best beer you’ve ever tasted and are pretty certain not a lot of people know about etc are encouraged to buy.
Once everyone bought their 4 six pack of beers (24 beers) plus your optional bonus beer, you wrap them all in tin foil. Try not to mix your beers, keep the six packs separated. Set a date and time that works for everyone when you can exchange the beers.
It’s eight of us doing it this year which means you wont get to try all the beers. We use a deck of cards to determine who got to pick their beer first. Everyone got to pick a card and the lowest card get to pick their beer first. Once everyone have their first beer, we draw a new card from the deck.
When we have collected all 24 beers for our calendar we wait patiently until December 1st when we get to open the first beer, and then one beer a day everyday until Christmas Day! Fun!

Holiday Beers

We’re getting ready for this years Beer Advent Calendar, yay!

Oktoberfest

It’s already the end of October and we have not had a chance to go to any Oktoberfest parties this year, so we had our own beer tasting party. We picked up a few different kind of beers that we all could share.
Started with a smoked porter from my favorite Stone Brewery.
Starting off with a smoked porter might not be the best choice, as it is pretty dark with a lot of flavors. We moved on to Fullers Organic Honey Dew and I think we’re gonna have to give this beer a second chance as it dint taste much right after the porter.

I’ve seen the Ninkasi beers on the selves for a while now, and I think I’m gonna have to try them all.

I think Rouge might be my second favorite brewery after Stone.

Finishing off with a bang!

Wurstkuche

We went to a birthday party for a 1 year old today, which was fun, but we were all more excited to go to Wurstkuche after the party…

Aligator and rattlesnake sausage!

Kwak beer in a special glass!

We had to pay a visit to our favorite wall as well while we were in the neighborhood.

City Tavern

There’s a new gastro pub in Culver City; the City Tavern. We checked it out for the first time tonight and it is very awesome! Love the way they serve the “shared” beers!
