Mammoth Bound

I was a little tired waking up at 4:30 am to drive up to Mammoth after the whiskey tasting last night, but it’s well worth it.

I’m so used to driving up to Mammoth at night so I forget how beautiful it is.

We got there and it was a little cold and overcast.

Still happy to be skiing though.

We skied for a couple of hours before it started hailing on us and it felt like needles were hitting our face so we gave up.

Headed down to the supermarket to stock up on beers and ice cream when the whole town got shut out of power. No power inside but lots of powder outside.

Had beer number 12 in the beer calendar, Ballast Point Wheat beer. I didn’t like it, didn’t finish it.

Since I was one day behind, I had beer number 13 as well. Another Ballast Point, Pale Ale this time and much better!

Cooled down our beers outside today!

Mammoth day two

Today was definitely the best day of the season, and it was probably better than any other day of last season.

I don’t see winter wonderlands very often.

Beer no. 4. Magic Hat #9 Pale Ale

Beer #1 Elysian

Starting off this years calendar with a lot of alcohol!
Bifrost Winter Ale from Elysian Brewing Company, Seattle WA.

The label says:
Bifrost is our lively winter brew, a bold pale ale with citrus and earthy hop character balanced by a smooth malt backbone.

I can’t taste any of that, I can only taste alcohol. 8.3%/vol

Mammoth bound

We decided last minute to go for Mammoth for the night and then continue to Yosemite tomorrow.

Usually when I drive up to Mammoth it’s after work and I wanna get there as quick as possible but this time we had some time to explore so we stopped by the Old Desert Cafe in Mojave.
It was very empty and charming.

Once in Mammoth, we headed out to the Mammoth Brewing Company. The Yosemite Pale Ale was fantastic!

Dec 13th, Denver Pale Ale

It seems like this year, it’s either a hit or a miss, nothing in-between. Today was another hit, that makes me happy!
Brilliant English-Style Balanced Denver Pale Ale from Great Divide Brewing Co, Denver Colorado. 5.5% alc/vol
Another good 4 out of 5!

The label says:
Great minds drink alike.
DPA is a world-renowned, classic pale ale with a malty middle and an equally hearty compliment of hop aroma, flavor and bitterness.
Suggested food parings:
Spicy shrimp tacos, beer battered fish & ships, Italian sausage, prosciutto wrapped asparagus, Humboldt Fog goat cheese, strawberry shortcake.

Dec 8th, Leffe Blonde

We’re only 8 days in and I’ve already gotten one cider, one awful blueberry “lager”, one wheat, and now a Belgian Pale Ale. What’s up with that? Give me some real beers people! Highly disappointed!
Leffe Blonde, a pale ale from Abbeye de Leffe in Belgium. 6.6% alc/vol.  Eeeh, not so good. I might starting to get used to the wheat beers, but I think it will take me another 30 or so years to get used to the Belgian brews. 2 out of 5.
I dig the foil around the cap though, you don’t see that very often nowadays and it reminds me of the pilsner my grandfathers used to drink.

The label says;
Savor the Mystery of the Ages
Award winning Leffe Blonde is a full-bodied deep golden ale that is surprisingly subtile and delicate. Belgium’s classic abbey ale is best served in its own chalice-shaped glass accentuating the ale’s aroma and creating the perfect head.
Deliciously soft and subtile.

Defrosting

I’ve heard you’re suppose to defrost your fridge every 6 months to save energy, and pretty much 6 months on the mark since I plugged the fridge in I discovered a huge block of frost. Good thing I don’t keep a lot of things in my fridge so it’s easy to empty it out.
Went to a birthday dinner at Figaro in Downtown LA, they had a few interesting beers, I tried Einstök from Iceland. Nothing amazing, but I like the label!

California Roots Festival

I am not a big fan of California roots music, in fact, with the exception of a few bands, I think it’s pretty crap. But I was invited up to the California Roots Festival up in Monterrey, and I had nothing better to do so…

Still had a lot of good time watching everyone move in slow motion.
