Kayaking

I love kayaking in Marina Del Rey!

Checking out the sea lions from a distance. We were told not to pet them.

Oh Hello! I am such a natural in front of the camera, haha!

Kayaking is fun, but I think I wanna try Stand Up Paddle boarding next time, looks like it’s a good balance and core training.

Camping At Kern

I had everything packed up and left work early so we could get the heck out of Los Angeles before the long weekend traffic started.
We got up to Kern around 7pm, the first two campgrounds we tried were all fully booked for the weekend but then we found a “first come first served” campground and we got the best site!

Back at Rancho Park

I was so disappointed after yesterdays round of golf, plus Slasher will be missing in action for the next month or so, so we did another round today.
First few holes felt really good. I wasn’t hitting very far, but the ball went straight, and it felt like I used a good technique and could keep concentrating throughout the holes.

Then the dreaded hole 4 came up and a couple behind us had caught up and waited for us. That made me stressed out and I played like crap with the ball going all over the place.

I got myself together and started playing okay again. On hole 6 I almost got Par but was unlucky and the ball did one of those “going halfway in the hole but changes it’s mind, twist around and pop back up” I hate those.
But then, on the next hole I got my first Par! So stoked I had to take a photo.

Then I got cocky and played like crap again on the last two holes. I really have to train on focusing for longer than 5 minutes. I haven’t had to do that through my adult life as far as I can remember. I don’t think it should be that difficult though, I just have to remind myself that I should get my act together.
To sum it up; when I play good I am decent, but when I play bad, it’s really bad. Ups and downs! Today felt much better over all compared to yesterday though, even if the scorecard may not reflect that.

Golfing

Back at the golf course and today I totally sucked.

I hit two cars, a tree twice…

…and the sand. I have to remind myself that it’s not so serious and relax. I tend to do much better then.

Happy hour! My favorite happy hour when you get two drinks for the price of one!

PNC Elections

Today was the neighborhood council election. Without knowing what I did, I accepted the position as the Appointed Election Chair of Palms Neighborhood Council a few months ago. I had no idea what an Election Chair, or it’s duties, was back then, but it’s pretty easy and straight forward; make sure all the candidates are behaving and it’s fair play for everyone.

I was also responsible for the volunteers on election day so I picked up food from Simpang Asia to feed everyone.

The results are in!
Not a great turn out. I am actually a little surprised not more people showed up to vote. We need more people involved in the neighborhood council! The problem though, is that no one knows what the neighborhood council is and what it does. Outreach need to do a better job, but it’s not easy… you are either interested and want to be involved or you’re not.

Tired volunteers having a well earned drink after everything is wrapped up! I’ve had a ton of fun doing this, but I’m glad all the hard work is over. It’s time for a breather and enjoy the summer!

Pool Time

Since it’s been really hot lately, when we started to think about how to spend our Friday night, I suggested jumping in the pool, without even checking with the pool owners if they were gonna be home or not.
Turned out we lucked out and they were gonna be home!
I am slowly getting to know my waterproof point and shoot camera better and better.

Fei had a company party earlier in the day and they had left a bunch of crayfish for us to eat, so stoked. I could’ve eaten this whole pot by myself!

Well, I have figured out that the object has to be quite far away from the camera for the photo to turn out decent. Now I just have to remember the delay and start clicking away before the actual action starts…

I also figured out how to stay under water for a longer period of time without floating back up – or my friend told me… I have to empty out the air from my lungs! Doh! That only took me 30 years to figure out. I am so retarded. Why did no one tell me this before?

My First 9 Holes

I got to play my first round of golf today.

Not the best shot of the day, but hey, I’m at least at the right side of the fence, and no squirrels were killed.

I actually hit the ball pretty straight most of the time, my biggest problem though is that I don’t have a good feeling of how hard I should hit… yet.

The final results. Not awesome but not to bad! There were definitely a few times where I got annoyed at myself for not concentrating enough. I wanna go again!

It’s Hot!

It’s been really hot over the last few days, makes you don’t wanna do anything, walk outside or even eat. I had FroYo for lunch.

My after work work got cancelled so I thought I could get some stuff done, like laundry. But my sinuses are still all clogged up and giving me a headache. That plus the heat is not a fun combination, so instead of laundry I took a nap.
The nap made me feel a lot better and after some bumming around I headed down to the beach to dip my feet in the ocean.

Culver City Classic Car Show

I knew Culver City had their car show today and was happy it was still going on as we headed down for some late lunch after the bike rodeo.

My friends has been nagging me all week long saying I really should get a new phone. I have been resisting, because I am cheap. I found out it will cost me about $100 to replace the cracked screen, and I don’t think it’s worth it so I was just gonna stick it out until the phone completely dies on me. Today however I tried to use a barcode to purchase coffee and the scanner couldn’t read it through the cracked screen. Off I go to the T-Mobile store.

Hello. I am gonna be nice to you. I’m gonna get a waterproof, shockproof case!

Bike Rodeo

The Palms Neighborhood Council put on a bike rodeo every year, this year was the 21st annual.

The organization Safe Moves was there to teach the kids how ride in the traffic.

A bunch of bikes were raffled out, I want one!

I have never quite gotten the whole shaved ice thing, but the kids seem to like it.

At the arts and crafts station, you could beautify your handlebars using toilet paper rolls. Awesome!

A local dance studio was there to perform as well, they had a lot of fun!
