MyLA311 App Love

There’s an app called MyLA311 where you can report potholes, objects dumped on the curb and other various small fixes that you think the city have to take care of. A few weeks ago I reported the back alley leading up to our garage. We call it “pothole heaven” as it is pretty severe. I didn’t think they would come out and fix it anytime soon as they pretty much have to resurface the whole street, it’s not just a single pothole that needs to be filled. I still thought I should report it though, so at least they are aware of it. They still haven’t fixed it, and I don’t know if they ever will.
I try to walk home from work whenever I have a chance. I walk on South Robertson Blvd, and it’s filthy. This old palm tree has been laying on the side of the curb for over a year and the last few days I’ve been thinking to myself that I should report it through the app.
I pinged them yesterday and today, 24 hours later, the tree was picked up! It works! That made my day.

The Garage

The search for candidates to run our neighborhood continues! Today we went to the Garage to try our luck.
The first thing the first guy I approached said “The first thing I would do is to kick out all illegal immigrants”. That put me off big time so I was bummed out for the rest of the night. People are stupid.
I had to use the restroom before leaving for the night and discovered they had chalkboards in the restrooms. Brilliant in so many levels!
We tagged!

I am tired. Who needs a drink?

Finding Candidates

Where’s the best place to set up camp to find candidates for the election? But at a bar off course!

Run for President!

I have realized a lot of people have a lot of opinions and like to complain, but when it comes down to it, they are to lazy or “busy” or they don’t wanna take any responsibility, so they don’t really do anything about it.
I grew up in Sweden and I was, and still am, super proud of Sweden. I did a fair amount of traveling when I was younger so I have seen some of the things that works and not work in Sweden vs other countries. When I spoke to people while traveling everyone seem to envy me, I was lucky that I was born and grew up in a safe, clean and modern country.
I have lived 1/4th of my life in US of A, and more precisely, Los Angeles. While I think Los Angeles is kind of awesome, it’s not safe, clean or anything remote to modern. I really do think the system here is broken.
I have a lot of opinions when it comes to human rights and the environment and what really broke me was all the filth. It’s so freaking dirty in Los Angeles. I don’t wanna live in a dump, I wanna be proud of where I live. I want to take friends and family that come to visit around and show off a clean and beautiful city. Seriously, it’s not that difficult to clean up after yourself. Also, since Los Angeles is just off the Pacific Ocean, all our filth end up poisoning the ocean.
I live in Palms Neighborhood, together with about 30 000 other angelinos. I wanted to be involved in the neighborhood, making it safer and cleaner. I thought I’d ease myself into it so I liked their faceboook page and a little over a month ago responded to a “Sign up to volunteer” post. I had no idea what I signed up to. All of a sudden I was assigned the Election Chair. I have been going to meetings and learned a lot. It is a ton of fun, and really not that difficult to make a difference, just take 2 hours of your life, go to a meeting and raise your opinion!
We have a board election in May, and as the Election Chair, I have to make sure people sign up and run for the board seats and then campaign for people to actually go and vote.

Bad Week

I don’t know what’s going on right now. First the phone down the toilet yesterday and today this;
I needed some change for the bus fare this morning and my piggybank broke in half. Now, do I find myself a new piggybank, or should I just go and bank the cash?

My Life Down the Toilet

Yes, panic mode! I dropped my phone in the toilet. Super gross! I put it in a bag of rice to dry out. Hopefully it will start up again soon!

Palms

I want to get more involved in my neighborhood. First step; go to a neighborhood meeting and get elected as the “Election Chair”.

Hookah

Smoking has never really been my thing, but every now and then I walk by Almaza, the Mediterranean restaurant just down the road from me, and it smells just like candy. It took me a year, but I finally stopped by, not just walked pass it.
