Farmers Market

We live a little less than a mile away from the weekly farmers market in Mar Vista. It might be a little more expensive at the farmers market compared to the grocery store, but it’s a nice walk, and I like to support the local farmers.

Avocado season is here, I am thrilled – we can get avocados for less than $1 each! Why are avocados so expensive in general anyway? How come everyone in LA don’t have an avocado tree in their backyard?

Orange season is here as well, which I’m also very happy about!

Heading back home with our bags filled with fresh produce.

Picnic at our favorite spot on the beach!

Happy New Year!

We were gonna stay up all night and watch the sunrise in the morning, but around 3:30am, we decided to take a nap. The alarm went off at 6:30am and we headed off to Baldwin Hills to see the first sunrise of the new year.

It’s been super foggy in the mornings over the last few days, makes it a kind of spooky effect.

Yep, this is where we usually see the ocean.

Once we were done with the hill, we were hungry for breakfast and walked around Culver City to find a place open for service.

The only place we could find was the Culver Hotel.

First meal of the year!

SantaCon Los Angeles

W told me about SantaCon a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was genius. We accidentally bumped into SantaCon San Francisco when we were up there last week and I was thrilled to find out that there were a SantaCon in Hollywood this weekend!

Yup, just a bunch of Santas hanging out, having a beer or two…

Playboy Santa was there, it is Hollywood after all…

This guy in the middle has been in some movie, cant remember which one though.

Then a bunch of clowns showed up which were total party poopers and bummed me out, so we felt it was about time to head back home.

Repeal Day

On January 16, 1919 the government banned alcohol in America, thinking it would put an end to drunkenness, crime, mental illness, and poverty. But it only resulted in even more crimes and shenanigans so on December 5th, 1933 they started to allow the use of alcohol again. This has to be celebrated! I heated up some Glögg, put a little extra rum in it and poured it into a martini glass.

Los Angeles 32nd Annual Swedish Christmas Fair

It was the time of the year again when SWEA had their annual Christmas Fair at the Shrine in Downtown LA. There was a line outside 20 minutes before the doors open.

We went straight for the food, started with a shrimp sandwich.
I love semlor, and I think it’s worth going to the fair just for these!
The Swedish folk dance group was there to show some moves.
There’s a lot of different craft artists and a lots of little Santas and his helpers.

I buy an ornament from the fair every year and got one of these little fellows with me home today.

Christmas Tree

We decided to get a Christmas tree this year and I am so excited! There’s two tree lots within walking distance from us so we went over there to check them out.

It was never our intension to get a tree from the $250 section, but we had to check them out!

The $40 section was more in our price range and size.

We have a winner!

I love our new Christmas tree! The cats seems to accept it as well, we’ll see when it’ll get tipped over the first time.

Din Tai Fung

We went to Din Tai Fun in Arcadia for juicy dumplings. They have two locations just around the corner from each other and there’s always at least 45 minute waiting time for a table on both locations!

I dont eat pork or beef, but the chicken and the veggie dumplings are well worth the wait.

Intelligentsia Coffee

I’ve never been a coffee drinker, but there’s a big fuzz around the intelligentsia coffee on Abbott Kinney in Venice, so when my friends wanted to stop by for a cup, I had a taste and it was not all that bad!

Comedy Show at Improv

I got tickets to a comedy show from a co-worker. I am not a big fan of American stand-up, I just don’t think most of them are that funny, but tonight was an awesome night! Best was Gina Yashere, but she is British, so maybe that’s why!
We were not allowed to take photos, but I sneaked one in after everyone had left.
