We made sushi for dinner, it was awesome!
I dont like the seaweed paper, I like my sushi with soy paper.
It’s difficult to get the cut rolls to stay together, we did a pretty decent job, but we are gonna have to practice more.
I am super picky with what I eat, and I am also kind of a snob when it comes to food. I dont know if it is just the way I am born or if it is my trained eye, but I am convinced that you can make a meal taste a lot better with just presentation and the atmosphere it is served in. I hate eating at fast food restaurants and I dont think much of restaurants that uses cheap plastic plates or glasses (there are a lot of these restaurants in LA).
I also like having it done my way… when I was working in a bakery a few years back, my co-workers made fun of me cos I showed interns and newbies how to slice the cucumber properly, but the cucumber actually tastes differently depending on how thick or thin the slices are! One day at the bakery a customer came in and asked, “why is it that a sandwich tastes so much better when someone else has made it?” – I dont know, I like it better when I make my own sandwich, cos I know it is made properly, with properly sliced cucumber 🙂

Oh, and lukewarm food doesnt work for me – it has to be warm, or cold!
The new quarter started a couple of weeks ago. My summer quarter was super chill; I only had one class and I didnt like it that much so I didnt give it 100%.
I am super excited for this quarter, but I am gonna be really busy. I am taking Advanced Typography which turns out is a lot of work, I am also having a mentor this quarter that is totally whipping my butt! Before the quarter started I had to come up with the projects I wanted to work with during my mentorship and my mentor had to sign off and get it approved by my school. I decided to do two projects and my mentor told me it would be a lot of work but if I was up for the challenge I should do it. -I was up for it and super excited!
My second meeting with my mentor went well, I felt like I had a lot to show him and he liked what he saw. Then at the end of the meeting he is dropping the bomb….
Mentor “So, is this your last quarter, how is your portfolio coming along?”
Me “Well, I have one more quarter after this and I wasnt gonna concentrate so heavy on the portfolio with you this quarter”
Mentor “Ok, so we are gonna work on your portfolio this quarter as well then, we are gonna have to set up a grid system for it etc, why dont you bring it in nex time so I can have a look at what you already have.”
So I guess I have no choice but to work on my portfolio as well… So yeah, my online portfolio will probably also be updated by the end of this quarter as well.
This is what a typical weeknight between 10pm and 1am looks like at at the Leap/Leogra Casa;
We had a ceremony to honor my friends dad who just passed away. It was a lot of folding papers involved in the ceremony.

A lot of folding paper involved, in fact, that was pretty much all we did.

My friend is still in Taiwan, attending the real ceremony. We put her on skype so she could see what we did here in LA!
Then back to some more folding.
Finally done with the folding! My hair is getting long again yo!
After a few hours of folding beautiful Lotus flowers and other stuff, part of the ceremony was to burn it all.
There is a Farmers Market every Sunday, just a couple of blocks away from where I live. I told myself I should go as often as I could but the whole summer went by and I had only been once. Ive been busy doing hikes and other things every Sunday. I was super exited when I woke up this morning and had nothing planned so I could walk over to the market and see what the season had to offer!
I have never been much of a meat person but love fresh fruits and veggies. I also strongly believe in supporting the local farmers rather than buying products that have been traveling from across the globe.

Here is some of the stuff that found its way down my shopping bags. Now I’m forced to eat at home for the rest of the week – which is a good thing I suppose!
I have seen a lot of movies this weekend, it started off on Friday night when I went to see 500 Days of Summer.
Today was Labor Day and we had the day off. Yesterday my friend and I was trying to figure out what we should do. We didn’t want it to be one of those usual Venice Beach days. We were thinking of going to Santa Barbara, San Diego Zoo or Catalina Island for the day but we were not really feeling any of it, so we decided to make a movie day out of it. We both had a free ticket to use, and the plan was to get to the theater in the morning, use our free ticket and see how many other movies we could sneak into before we got caught and got kicked out (and probably banned from the theater).
We started off by going to Trader Joe’s to buy some sandwiches that we could sneak in.

The first movie was Ponyo, an animated movie from Japan.
Third one was Timetravelers Wife, we came in a little late to this one and missed the beginning.
Then we had a 40 minutes break, which we spent in the gaming room.
We didnt get caught and could easily walk in and see Taking Woodstock as well.
We could have continued throughout the night, but were both a little tired and thought it was about time to go home and do homework.
Labor Day is unofficially the last day of summer. It’s still hot here though, and it doesn’t really feel like the summer is over. The beach was crowded today!

I did a lot of walking today – around 5+ hours, had a lunch break in between and the restaurant had these games at the table. I don’t remember what they are called, but I used to have one when I was a kid.
I was reminded of how much it sucks to be so far away from your family yesterday.
I’m taking care of my good friends babies while she out of the country taking care of her family. We are all waiting for her to come back so we can take care of her!
W, this one is for you. Tangy and Whitey are behaving exceptionally!
I was gonna do homework yesterday, but after checking out an apartment, my friend was bored and wanted me to hang out. We usually go down to Venice, but we explored Santa Monica yesterday.
It is pretty much the same freakshow, but with nicer stores.
I saw this book, I will buy it for myself for Christmas.
Dinner at Barneys, their menu is a newspaper!

They had old license plates in the ceiling.
Helping my friend flirt with the bartender…

Waiting for the bus to take us home after an eventful evening.
More people in this city should take the bus! People are complaining over the lack of public transportation, but the bus system is actually really good, and it’s super cheap! You can go anywhere for $1.25, try to beat that with driving costs including gas and parking (beach parking is between $5 and $20).
