Gallery Hopping

Nate Frizzell had an exhibition at the LeBasse gallery in Culver City.

Super crowded at the gallery, it was difficult to get up close to the paintings or to even move around the gallery!
Since it was so crowded we moved on to the Whole 9 down the street. I thought the Peace Project were cool, I’ve always been weak for these “images within the image” type of deal since I read Nick Hornby’s short story Nipple Jesus in my late teens. I don’t really remember what that short story was about and should probably read it again one day.

Sunday

Started off as a lazy Sunday, cooked breakfast and had friends over for Mimosas.

We were gonna have omelets, but it didnt turn out the way we wanted so we made fancy scrambled eggs instead.
After some chill at home we took off to the Getty Museum.
Ive never been a huge fan of the art at the Getty, not my cup of tea, but I would love to have one of these to lounge on in the living room!
The view from the Getty is stunning. It was a polluted LA today, but we could still see most of the city.

An Evening of Openings

Rilakkuma came to town and we stopped by to say hello. Rilakkuma = relaxing bear, he was just hanging out in the corner being cute!

Free cake balls for the first 100 guests, yum!
Takoyaki Tanota food truck was outside, first time I tried it.
The round shaped shells are made from eggs and flour and on the inside there are octopus pieces and a mix of veggies, and then topped with a bunch of crap. Delicious!
Then we headed to Culver City and the LeBasse gallery and an exhibition opening.

If you had $60k to spare, and a big enough room, you could take this wall piece with you home:

Once we were done at LeBasse, we heard there was another exhibition at the Corey Helford Gallery down the street.

My favorite, the Usual Suspects
Ramen at Sawtelle at 11pm, sweet!

Familiar Strangers

We went to the opening of an art show last night.

Yoskay Yamamoto had some cool stuff, but my favorites was Mikito Ozeki’s art that was hand cut paper.
We went to a comedy show after, which was all right, I didnt quite get all the jokes… On the way home we bumped in to a bunch of kids hanging out in a bike shop, having a good time. They had a bunch of beers and some live bands playing. It’s totally a movement I would have loved 10 years ago. Supercool, and the music was awesome.

Culver City Art Walk

Today was the Culver City Art walk. I stopped by a friends house before the walk, he rescued a couple of kittens a few weeks ago, they are super cute and needs a new home! The little girl has a damaged eye and might have to loose it.

Beers and BBQ before an art walk can never go wrong!
We made it to the art walk, but I am a little disappointed, the art was a lot better last year.

Artists are weird, they do a bunch of weird stuff. What is this and what does it mean?

For the Love of Tiger

Martin Hsu have an exhibition at Munky King on Melrose, in the celebration of the Chinese new year.

The artist getting interviewed outside the gallery:

I believe this little fella found a new home!

He-man and the Masters of the Universe!

Martin Hsu has a contribution to Gallery 1988LA’s exhibition “He-man and the Masters of the Universe!” We wanted to check it out at the show opening last night.
The Gallery open at 7pm, we were there at 7:30pm and it was a huge line to get in.

We decided to go grab dinner first, but by the time we got back it was still crowded inside the gallery and the line was even longer.

Luckily though, his painting was hanging right by the window so we could see it from outside!

Since we still had not gotten inside 30 minutes before the gallery was supposed to close for the night, we decided to come back another night and go drink beers instead.

Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk

We went downtown to check out the last Art Walk of the year. It felt like we were in New York, cold, dark, Christmas lights, rain, people in winter coats, it was nice!

Art made of old keys.

Our friend relieving a secret that she then found out we all knew about before she knew about it… it’s complicated, but it was hilarious and the peak of the night!

I’ve seen this monster at some other art walk

Guitar made out of junk.

Banksy! Well, a copycat…

A rainy downtown LA at midnight.
