Happy New Year!

2010 was an in-between year for me, nothing too exciting happen in my life more than I got the Certificate in Advanced print and Design Communication.
We ended 2010 pretty low key with a Wine and Mystery dinner party with good friends.

I have a good feeling for 2011 and we started it off in style, with Champagne and a 5 hour dance party!

Christmas Day

When you start a day off with Mimosas, you know it’s gonna be a good day!

The chefs preparing waffels.

Waffel toppings.

 I love Christmas food!

Glogg was there as well!

The hosts.

After Christmas brunch, we thought, what would be a better way to celebrate the birth of Jesus but to go to a Buddhist temple?

After the temple, we played pictionary, I am pretty sure my team won!

More food, Chinese take away.

Bad Sweater/White Elephant Party

I was invited to a Bad Sweater White Elephant party. The rules: Wear a bad sweater and bring a wrapped gift worth $25 or more.

The White Elephant rules, taken from wikipedia:

To determine the gift-choice play order, participants may draw numbers from a hat. Starting with one and up to the total number of participants, the players take turn in the corresponding succession.
Once an order has been established, each person takes his or her turn choosing a gift. The first person picks a gift, opens it, and shows it to the rest of the company. Then in turn, the participants chooses to either unwrap a new gift or to “steal” a previously unwrapped gift. If a gift is “stolen”, the person who had their gift taken from them gets to unwrap any unopened gift; and then, the turn passes. When all the gifts have been opened, the game is over.

We also added:  A gift can only be stolen three times before it is considered locked and can not be stolen again and a gift can not be stolen more than once in the same round (a start of a round is when someone open a new gift).

I got to go as number 9 out of 24 people, which turned out to be a pretty good number, a fair amount of presents had already been open and there were a few that was pretty cool, like a bottle of Champagne, and there were a few I felt would be disappointing if I ended up with. I couple of people thought I should steal the bottle of champagne, but after some consideration, I decided to open up a new one and this is what I got:

A bottle of Grey Goose that came with a shaker.  I did not get to keep it for very long though before someone stole it from me. So then I stole the Champagne. I was still a happy camper!

But then someone stole it from me, which I thought was very unfair, so I stole the Gray Goose back.

I was lucky enough that it had been stolen enough times so it was mine to keep!
The winner of the best bad sweater;

Pingu Says

I’ve been bummed out and felt sorry for myself for a couple of days. My alarm went off at 6am this morning and it was pouring down with rain. I was miserable, until I found a note on the bathroom mirror!

Hooray for friends!

Beer Calendar

The beer calendar is back! A bunch of us got together to do it this year. We bought 4 six packs each, lots of beers!

Then we wrapped them in foil,
and lined them up so we could pick our beers.

I am super excited for Wednesday when I get to see what my first beer will be!

Thanksgiving

We were invited to spend Thanksgiving evening in Hacienda Heights. On the way there, we saw snow!

I’m thankful for my friends!

A long list of things to do for Thanksgiving dinner!

Cooking the turkey is one of them.

Let’s eat!

Hello Kitty and pals celebrate 50 years!

I never been a huge Hello Kitty fan, but Sanrio is having a week long party at the Santa Monica airport for their 50th anniversary. Martin Hsu was asked to make a painting for the gallery, so we had to check it out!

A bunch of other artists were also asked to do paintings, here are some of the ones that I liked the most:

There were a lot of fun stuff to do, I wanted to try the miniature golf, but there were no time for it, maybe next time…

Trick or Treat

After the hikes, we usually go somewhere for lunch. I am always exhausted and am ready to pass out, thinking I’d take a nap as soon as I get back home. But then after getting something to eat I get my energy back and have a hard time falling asleep. I was however drowsing on an off throughout the afternoon, watching old classics on netflix.

We then headed over to some friends to watch a scary movie and give out candy to the kids that came knocking on the door. The kids were adorable, it was a first time experience for me, thought it was gonna be lame, but we are so gonna dress up and do a haunted house for the kids next year!
Our friends neighbor is a lightning designer and had put up a big scull on a wall next to her house, it was super cool!

I fell asleep halfway through the movie, probably a good thing as I get nightmares from scary movies anyway.
