Mt Cheeseman

Woke up bright and early and had breakfast at the café in the Chill headquarters, awesome sandwiches and awesome views!

Mt Cheeseman was not as remote as Mt Olympus, but it was still pretty far out.

“Jr” is checking out his line.

Yours truly! And yes, they had t-bar lifts at Mt Cheeseman!

When the guys found their lines, they started hiking. I did not go this time as the snow condition was not 100%. Since I misplaced my transceiver I thought it’d be better to be safe than sorry and not getting buried under an avalanche with no chance of being found.

I got a couple of good shots out of it, and I was not jealous of the hike back up…

Happy after a great run!

On the way home from the mountain we stopped by these funny looking lime stones.

Pasta and wine for dinner.

Parker Mesa Overlook

Because it is so hot now, we got up at cracker dawn to do the hike today. Ok, maybe it wasnt that early, but we started the hike at 8am. We saw a Coyote, which totally made it worth the early morning!

The morning fog was still hanging in there, it was nice to do a hike again that wanst deadly hot!

Early morning hikes are cool, we should do it more often! It’s just that they are, erhm… early mornings, and always after Friday- or Saturday night activities. We saw tons of spider webs and ugly looking spiders! And a bunny 🙂

When we reached the top, we were in the middle of a cloud, and even though the hike was called Parker Mesa Overlook, we saw nothing but white surroundings.

The sun burned off the fog on our way back and it started to heat up quickly, but it didnt really matter as it was downhill for the most part on the way back.

Sand Dune Park

I’ve been really busy lately. It’s a good thing I suppose, but I havnt been able to do all the things I want to, or need to do. I had the chance to go to the Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach today for a work out though. I’ve been wanting to do it for a while now, as it is a steep sand hill, and it almost feels like hiking in snow!

My goal was to climb it 8 times. After the first lap, I felt really bad and thought that maybe 8 times wasnt doable so I quickly decided to only do 5 laps. It felt good after the second lap and I again set the goal on 8.

The brain kind of fools the body, or if it is the other way around. It’s really hard to hike up, but going down is super easy and fun, when I had done my 8 laps and was standing at the bottom, I really felt I could do two more laps. I soon had to regret it and on top of the hill for the 9th time I was DONE!

Eagle Rock Hike

August 4th is sneaking up on me so I decided to do two hikes this weekend. Sunday hike was hot, but not as bad as Saturday, and only 2 hours round trip.

Eagle Rock, our goal!

We found some cool caves with paintings.

The path down took us through all kinds of vegetable.

A mile from home we found a water fountain, yey for cooling down!

Santa Ynez Canyon Hike

We had planned to do a different hike today, but changed our minds in the parking lot at the trail head, it is always a little confusing with the hikes cos they dont mark the trails very well. We saw a sign for a waterfall and thought that sounded cool, so we took that path. We had to look out for poison oak and ticks today.

Area closed for plant rehabilitation, yeah, good luck with that… maybe you should consider feeding them some water as well then!

Interesting spiderweb!

We found a cave,

must explore!

A treasure box!

Someone had left it there a while ago and you were supposed to take one thing out and leave a different item for the next person who found the box. We didnt have anything to leave behind, but we tagged the box with our websites 🙂

We never found the waterfall, but we found a creek where the water once have been.

Poison Oak, so beautiful, but oh so no no!

The hike was a little over 3 hours long, and this was the first time I really felt it and got tired in my legs. It was extremely hot, and I had a good work out at the Santa Monica stairs yesterday, plus I woke up at 8am in my bed with the cloths still on from the night before to the text message “I’ll be at your place in 30 minutes”.
Almost back where we started we found this tree. I checked if it grew fresh lemonade like in Pippi Longstocking, but we were not that lucky.

The Burnt Down Hotel Hike

It all started a couple of months ago now with me booking a ski vacation in New Zealand in August. I decided I wanted to be in decent shape and have some elevation in my legs so I dont get too far behind when the guys decide to hike the mountains.
On the first weekend hike, it was just two of us, but each week, more people are joining the group and today was a great turnout! A total of 13 of us made the “Burnt Down Hotel Hike” in Pasadena. The hotel open up in 1894 with a cable cart taking guests from Pasadena up to the hotel. The hotel unfortunately burnt down an early February morning in 1900 and was never restored.

It is getting really hot early in the day now when the summer is here, so we have to start the hikes early. We started at 9am today and the moon was with us for the first part of the hike.

We made it to the top and came to the conclusion that the smog from the pollution or the downtown Los Angeles skyline was probably not the view back in 1894.

Left overs from the old cable cart that took the guests up to the hotel, funny how its just been hanging out here for over 100 years!

The foundations from the hotel is still there, and off course, art in the old water reservoir.

Leo is checking out the echo phone and Jessica is checking out the view.

The hike path, going downhill.
