Cults at MOCA

Cults were doing a free show at the MOCA, I think we might have seen them one or two times to many by now so they don’t excite me that much right now. I think the problem with free shows as well is that everyone is just there for the shits and giggles, no one really pay attention to the band performing.
The Cults always puts on a good show though.

They had these bouncing balls at the event and Leo managed to smuggle one out.

First Friday May

Another month has passed by and it was time for another First Friday at the Natural History Museum.

The fun thing with this museum is that you discover something new every time you’re there. I’ve never seen this green snail before!
Dino was there this time as well.

Karaoke after!

First Friday

Last night was the first First Friday of the season at the Natural History Museum.

I am a member this year which I am very happy about.

Carl von Linné, a very awesome man!

New for this year is the dinosaurs, they are way cool!

I love everything about the Natural History Museum, even the ceiling is beautiful!

Mariachi El Bronx were playing.

Tim Burton & Saint Motel at LACMA

I have never been a big fan of Tim Burton, he has done some cool stuff, but I often just find him weird and creepy. I still wanted to go check out his exhibit at LACMA though, and thought it was a great opportunity to go when Saint Motel was playing at the museum as well.

We were not allowed to take photos inside the Burton exhibit, but I sneaked one in anyway…

I was excited to see Saint Motel – I missed them last time they played in LA. Silent Comedy opened for them, they were ok.

Saint Motel were really good! The LACMA lights made a pretty good backdrop as well!

Art in the Streets

MOCA is having a street art exhibition, I’ve been wanting to go since they opened in April and finally had a chance to check it out today!

Space Invader was welcoming us in.

It all started in the 1960’s when the automotive industry developed the spray paint.

Eric Haze iconic sketches on tracing paper.

I saw this tag and took a photo of it the first time I was in London, I believe it was back in 1998 or 99, I did not know back then that it was a Banksy.

I am a big fan of Banksy, he doesnt just tag places to have his tag seen, his tags always seems to be well thought out.

I wonder if he has an intern cutting out the stencils for him?

Jamie Reid work for the Sex Pistols.

Hugh Holland’s photographs of the Z-Boys from the 1970’s.

Shepard Fairy’s wall, I think he is a little overrated.

Hispanic street art is very detailed.

There was a room filled with neon junk. I did not quite understand it, but it was still pretty cool!

I loved this exhibition! Spent over two hors there and would not mind going back again!

The Getty Villa

I finally made it to the Getty Villa!  I have never been a big fan of the Getty Center, not my kind of art, but the Getty Villa is a place you have to visit, especially if you have studied art and have lived in Los Angeles for 5 years.
We took the architect tour which was very interesting, they made this corner to make you feel like you were standing in an archeological dig with all the different layers in the ground.

They made the cement look like wood, super cool!

This looks like real construction, but it’s “just” a painting. Amazing!

Detailed decorations!

There’s a real mummy in the museum, super fascinating!

The garden pool.

After the Getty Villa, we headed over to Malibu Pier for lunch.
