Pogo at Lot 613

Pogo was in town and we were very excited to see him!

Pogo is this Australian kid who is cutting sounds and clips together from famous movies to create new music.

Crazy friends.
Here’s a mix he did of Disney’s Snow White.

A New Brain

We went down to UC Irvine to see our friends musical A New Brain. As always, there were no cameras allowed, but I sneaked on in with the phone.

Radio Dept. at the El Rey

The Radio Dept. played an sold out show at the El Rey last night and I was super excited.

I love their music and thought they were great when I saw them back in 2003, so my expectations were high.
Unfortunately I think my expectations were a little too high as I was a little disappointed by the end of the show. The first half of the set was kind of boring, while the second half was a lot better, but not good enough to justify for the boring first half.

First Fridays at the Natural History Museum

Every first Friday of the month for the first half of the year, KCRW – the radio station, is putting up a show at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles; DJ’s, live music, alcohol and dinosaurs!

It’s difficult for me to wrap  my head around that this has actually been a live animal!

I love museums, and I had never been to the Natural History Museum before, I will have to go back there to check out everything I didnt get a chance to see tonight!

Foster the People at the Echo

Foster the People are doing free shows at the Echo in Silverlake every Wednesday night through the rest of the month. We were there last night to check them out. It was really really good, and I’m hoping I can catch their last free show as well, anyone want to come with me?

Gangi was the supporting act, I really liked their music as well, and the singer kept on ending everything he said with “in a non-violent way”.

Aging Out

We were invited down to UC Irvine to see our friend perform in a musical.
We were not allowed to take photos, but I managed to get this one shot before we were kindly asked to put away our cameras.

The musical was a little depressing, about kids in foster care, but the performance was really good!

Moneybrother at the Troubadour

I was super excited to see Moneybrother was playing at the Troubadour in West Hollywood!

The show was great and Bedouin Soundclash who played after was amazing! I’m gonna have to get some of their music as well!

11 Things to do in 2011

I’ve set up a list of things that I want to have accomplished by the end of 2011;

  1. re-design my website www.popnea.com. Not sure how, just know that I want an update.
  2. read 5 books. I am not a very good reader, and I usually get restless and don’t finnish the book. I think it’s been 5 years since I read a book.
  3. run three 5k’s. I enjoy running, but I’m lazy. This will keep me motivated to get out and run throughout the year. My goal is to run a 5k under 30 minutes, it doesn’t have to be this year though.
  4. visit a city in the US that I have not previously been to. Time to get to know the rest of America!
  5. go to 5 concerts (just go to the local pub or go see some friend of a friends band play does not count). I used to go see a lot of bands, then I moved to the US and I stopped, now I want to get back into it.
  6. camp out. I don’t know why I put this up here. I’m gonna be freaked out by the wilderness.
  7. stay up and watch the sunrise. This is another stupid thing on the list. I have stayed up to see the sunrise before, but I guess it’s gonna be done again.
  8. visit Catalina Island. An island 20 something miles southwest of LA, it’s supposed to be beautiful.
  9. take a beginners class in Spanish. After 5 years in southern California, it’s time to learn the language! Habla?
  10. visit 5 museums I have not been to. There’s a lot of interesting museums out there!
  11. volunteer for a soup kitchen. It’s time to give back!

Friday I’m in Love

Karaoke night!

The guys did an awesome version of Listen To Your Heart.
I dont remember which number we did here, but I’m sure we nailed it!
