Mammoth Day 2

Another beautiful day on the mountain. It was a little windy on top, but the snow was still awesome.

I never want to stop, but my legs thought I had enough by 2pm so it was time to head back to Los Angeles. About halfway home we were considering doing a 180 turn, head back up to the mountain and call in sick tomorrow. But the grown ups inside of us spoke out and made us continue all the way back to Los Angeles.

Mammoth Mountain

Like an old married couple, Slasher and I now have the same set of skis. Yes, he bought his first, but I’ve been wanted a pair of Mantras for about 10 years.

Who knew we would have the best conditions of the season in April? Love the storm that rolled in over the past week! The snow was still cold even though the sun was strong, perfect conditions for new skis!

Why I love California? There’s a vegan cafe at the ski resort! I have a love-hate relationship to the hippies.

And yes, I did this…

On top of the Sierra, 11 053 feet up.

After a good 5 hours of skiing, my legs were dead tired and it was time to hit up Schat’s Bakery to pick up dinner.

Dessert for dinner while watching Mrs Doubtfire, to exhausted to even change the channel.

Skis are waxed and it’s past 9 pm, is it time to go to bed yet?

Wendy’s

Heading up to Mammoth to ski, yay! We had to stop somewhere to eat on the way and wanted something quick and dirty. I had never been to Wendy’s but finally got a date with this juicy redhead.

It was not that epic.

Snow Summit

My alarm was set for 4:45am. It is a little early when it was already past midnight before you got to go to bed the night before. We wanted to get to Big Bear early so we could head back down before 1pm.

My first day on my new skis. They were awesome. It took me a few runs to get used to, they are super fast!

Great weather and not a lot of people. Another awesome day at the slopes. I am so happy I got to go again this weekend. Totally not planned for!

Lunch in the village before heading back to Los Angeles.

New Toys

I picked up my new skis from my friends house today, they look so awesome! Am I gonna get to ski this coming weekend?

Big Bear

I should’ve picked up my new skis yesterday that was shipped to my friends house, but I got stuck at the bank for 3 hours counting my change that I wanted to deposit (eeeh, I’m at the bank, don’t they have machines to do that for you….??), so I got to use my old skis again today.

So excited to see real snow for once! In December I said I was gonna try to ski at least once every month for the season and in the car up I realized it was already March so I can check that off! I wonder if Big Bear will still be open in April, that would be neat!

Due to the recent storm, all of Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Orange County thought it was a good idea to go boarding. It took us quite some time to get up the mountain and we started to get a little scared it might sell out, but once we got a spot in the line for the shuttle that would take us up to Summit like kettles, we were all set. Just have to wait patiently.

Once we were up, the lift lines weren’t all that bad. The weather kept rolling in but it didn’t matter, we had to much fun skiing.

I very rarely have a drink before or during my ski sessions, I usually save that for after, but today was definitely a heiße Schokolade mit Rum day!

We didn’t see much sun today, but we kept skiing until they closed and I still felt like I could’ve kept going. This rarely happens to me, I usually feel like I’ve had enough around 3pm. I wanna go again!

We stopped by Big Bear Mountain Brewery on the way home, how come I have never been here before?

Storm!

Since my phone is still in a bag full of rice getting CPR from it’s recent suicide attempt, I am stuck with a flip phone with a not so hot camera. I still felt like I had to take a photo of this though; Los Angeles is experiencing the worst storm, or “the largest rain event” in 3 years.
Since we currently have a draught, this is warmly welcome. I am also planning a day on the mountain this weekend, so it makes me extremely happy!
What’s not so cool though is that whenever there’s a storm coming in, the studio I work for in Santa Monica get’s flooded. This time it was a little worst than usual. Apparently the rain pipes are located on the inside instead of on the outside of the building. Who does that? It doesn’t seem that smart.

Left and Right

I have skied with left and right stickers on my skis for 10 years. It’s not because I always need a specific ski on one foot or the other, its more of a combination on me liking to ski fast and don’t know left and right; when someone behind me shouts “go left” I can quickly look down and see which way to go.
This on the other hand means that the edges on one side of my skis wears out more than the other. I have old skis, but they don’t have a ton of ski days on them, so they’ve been working okay. Until yesterday when I switched skis with my friend for a couple of runs. All of a sudden I could actually get some nice carving turns in, and my friend was sliding around like Bambi.
I ordered a new pair of skis yesterday, and switched my skis around today. I had to do some extra left and right thinking and will have to come up with a new solution for my new skis.

It wouldn’t hurt if we got some more snow still.

Mammoth February

Mammoth has gotten a little bit more snow and I had nothing planned for the weekend. Hooray for skiing!
