The actual border

Riksgränsen literally means “the national border” and one of the slopes go over the border and into Norway. The Swedish king came here in 1987 and put up a marker so you know which country you’re in.

Some parts of the world put up big walls on the borders. Here they just pave the road differently.

Yes, it’s midnight, and the sun does not set.

Ski Riksgränsen

Gloomy first day.

Since Riksgränsen is so tiny there’s no way to buy alcohol. I had pre-orderd and we had to pick up in Katterjokk. Luckily we could ski there and take a free shuttle back to the hotel.

10pm and still daylight out!

LAX-KRN-Riksgränsen

It’s quite a long hike. Los Angeles to Stockholm with a connection in London Heathrow (where Asher forgot his helmet on the plane). Then Stockholm to Kiruna, one night in Kiruna before a few hour train ride to Riksgränsen.

While in Kiruna, we did some sightseeing.

Not much to see though to be honest if you only have a few hours to spare. They do have an iron mine, it is quite massive.

Got to stock up on godis for the week!

Winter wonderland

Trying to dig out the snowmobiles, it’s not an easy task.

Left Vegas early in the morning and headed straight to Mammoth, and yes it’s snowing again!

Lots of snow

So it has snowed quite a bunch since last time we were here in November.

Mammoth in November

Today was one of those days when you sort of regret putting your boots on.

Early Mammoth trip

Ski season has started! It doesn’t look like much snow, but it’s pretty impressive for being so early in the season.

Got to celebrate with bubbles!
