Going Home From Vegas

I have lost count in how many times I have been in Vegas, but I still had not seen Elvis, or the famous Welcome to Vegas sign. Still haven’t seen Elvis, but at least I got to see the sign today!

Only 257 miles to go!

We stopped by in Baker on the way home and took a photo of the Worlds Tallest Thermometer, which is no longer working…

We can see Downtown Los Angeles, almost home!

Las Vegas

I have friends in town from Sweden and we decided to go to Vegas for the weekend. We stayed at Bally’s Resort & Casino, this was the view from our hotel room;

Getting ready for a night out!

Paris!

Day Two of the Summit

Maybe I’ve been a little jet lagged and not paid enough attention, but I was a little disappointed at this years summit. Yes I learned a bunch, but not nearly as much as last year. Still got some helpful tips and advice though.

The San Jose airport is pretty awesome!

Yahoo Summit

I came home from Sweden on Sunday night and had one day to recover before I flew up to San Jose for the Yahoo Summit.

Reijmyre Glasbruk

I grew up some 45 minutes away from Reijmyre Glassworks, but had yet to visit. Reijmyre began to manufacture hand-blown glass 200 years ago and is the second oldest glassworks in Sweden still in business.

We came home and prepared for a traditional Swedish crayfish party!

Smultronstället

We went for ice cream at Smultronstället in Söderköping, their ice creams are amazing!

After Eight chocolate mints, pear halves, ice cream and chocolate sauce! Who wants one?

Smultronstället is right by Göta Canal. The canal was built in the early 19th century and it connects the Baltic sea in the east of Sweden with Skagerrak in the west. It’s also called “the divorce ditch” as couples likes to rent boats during the summer and travel on the canal, it got a bunch of locks along the way, which always opens up for arguments…

My sister in law came up with filled bag of fresh wild chanterelles later in the afternoon, so we spent the late evening cleaning and eating them!

Homebound

I told granpa we wanted to go stop by Vafflan by Italienska Vagen on the way home, but that was not approved. “Over priced and not worth it” was the word, and “I have waffle mix at home we can make” yeah, but we kind of wanted… “Let’s at least make a test run!” yes, why not, I guess he really wanted waffles! It turned out though, that he actually did not have any waffle mix at home and I could tell how disappointed he was, so I suggested we’d drive down to Kattvik and have waffles there instead. Granpa likes to be stubborn so he was hesitant at first, but I asked him a second time and it didnt take him long before he was waiting for us by the car.

Kattvik is probably one of my favorite little harbors. Old school fishermen and summer guests away from the buzz in town.

We still wanted to stop by Vafflan on the way home. It wasnt a big deal for me, but I had never been before, and if we would not stop by this time, I would probably never do it.

Once we wolfed down a second set of waffles before lunch and strolled around town for a bit it was time to get back into the car and drive back to Katrineholm.

We stopped by Gränna of course to pick up a couple of Polkagrisar (Polka Pigs). They’re like candy cane, but way better, and you can only get them in this town.

I used to be crazy for Polkagrisar when I was younger, but I think I grew out of it. I still like them a lot, but I’m not as obsessed with them as I used to be.

We also stopped by Brahehus. We used to stop by the restaurant on the way down to my grandparents all the time, but I had never actually made it out to the ruins. I always thought it was an old fort, built with the view over the lake, but it turns out it was just another castle. Good thing we stopped by today so I got that straightened out!

The views from the ruins are stunning!

Kullen and Bjäre

We took a road trip around Kullen and the Bjäre peninsula today. The first stop was “fika” at Flickorna På Skäret.

Prawn Sandwich, my favorite!

The view over Kattegat from Kullen.

We stopped by in Mölle for a late lunch.

Grandpa!

More prawns, I love these guys!

Next stop was Torekov, I love walking around these little alleys!

We had to stop by Hovs Hallar as well while we were at it.

After we’d been driving around all day and dropped Grandpa back home, we drove down to Båstad to jump into the ocean.

This beach is packed about 4 weeks of the year, we are about one week late though so most of the summer guests have already left.

Sunset over Skälderviken

We drove some 5 hours heading south to the beautiful Båstad and the Bjäre peninsula. We met up with a couple of old friends I had not seen in over 5 years!

They took us out on a boat ride in the sunset.
