Palm Springs

We did a girls getaway to Palm Springs. The first thing we saw as we turned off the freeway was a man in his mid 60’s walking on the side of the street in just his red speedos. I don’t think we could’ve gotten a better start on our weekend!

Our plan was to escape the city, hang by the pool, gossip and drink fancy drinks. I had my first ever Bloody Mary, it’s apparently time to grow up.

Baseball

Made it to Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs play.
Started off the right way at a diner though.

The weather was more on our side today. No rain but still pretty cold.

Tired, cold and hungry after the game we came across this all American bar, they had fried pickles. Amazing!

Everyone said I had to go visit the Navy Pier, I’m not entirely sure why.

Chicago

I’m trying to make it to a city in the US each year that I have not been to. This year I made it to Chicago. I’ve been wanting to go for a long time.

Was greeted by overcast and rain. Didn’t bother me so much though, we get plenty of sunshine in Los Angeles, so I was happy to see some rain.

Made it to Millennium Park and the bean. Everyone has to see the bean. No one knows why though.

The Chicago website says:
Cloud Gate is British artist Anish Kapoor’s first public outdoor work installed in the United States.
The 110-ton elliptical sculpture is forged of a seamless series of highly polished stainless steel plates, which reflect Chicago’s famous skyline and the clouds above. A 12-foot-high arch provides a “gate” to the concave chamber beneath the sculpture, inviting visitors to touch its mirror-like surface and see their image reflected back from a variety of perspectives. Inspired by liquid mercury, the sculpture is among the largest of its kind in the world, measuring 66-feet long by 33-feet high.

It was actually a lot smaller than I expected.

The food in Chicago is not really to my taste. Just a lot of “stuff” that’s greasy and flavorless. A bit of a bummer.

It kept on raining so we better take shelter in a bar.

Everyone else seemed to be okay with it raining sideways cause the bar was empty.

You know you’re at the right spot when they have these signs by the front door.

Had the famous Chicago style deep dish pizza. I’m glad I did, but I really don’t have to try it again.

Mono Lake

We were looking forward to a day of spring skiing, but was welcomed by some clouds. We did get quite a few good runs in still before they closed for the day.
Since it’s so late in the season they close the lifts in the early afternoon to try to maintain the snow as much as possible.

We had all afternoon and no plans so we drove a few miles north on the 365 and hit the Mono Lake. Mono Lake used to be a very healthy little lake, but then came the human and fucked it up. Now we have to work on getting it back to normal again.

Las Vegas

Since the guys has no clothes they had to go on a scavenger hunt. My brother borrowed some from me but Patrik wanted to buy some new jeans. We got kicked out from the store shortly after.

Miami stopover

When I was back in Sweden for Christmas my mother asked me if I had ever accidentally boarded the wrong plane. I laughed at her and thought; no dummy, stuff like that never happens in real life, it only happens in the movies. But apparently I was wrong. stuff like that do happen in real life, and I just boarded the wrong plane!
My flight was early in the morning, I was tired and did not pay attention. There was another flight with the same destination and departure time so I just boarded that one instead. I guess the flight staff didn’t pay much attention either.
I started noticing something was wrong when I saw my boarding pass looked different from everyone else’s and the aircraft interior was slightly different from what I am used to, but I thought it might be one of those American Airline flights operated by another airline. When a man came up to me and said I was in his seat I got escorted off the plane and had to run to a gate on the other side of the airport. I made it though, which is good, cause it is holiday season and all planes everywhere is jammed packed.
I had a 12 hour stopover in Miami and why change a winning strike… let’s go to the beach!

I’m all beached out now. Give me some snow!

Last day in Bahamas

Woke up to this, not bad…

My plans for today was the same as for yesterday, do nothing. I managed better today.

Vacation

I usually run around doing a bunch of touristy stuff and getting to know the country when I am travelling, but my plan this time was to do absolutely nothing, and that’s exactly what I did today, kind of.
Started the day off by chilling at the beach.

I didn’t see any fish in the water but they had big fish tanks at the hotel so I could fake a photo and make it look like I’m swimming with the fishes.

Walked over the bridge for lunch, really pushing the not doing anything here.

Made it to Bones Sea Food. Conch is apparently a local favorite so I had to try.

I didn’t expect the conch salad to be a ceviche, I wasn’t stoked when I got it but it was not all that bad. I’d order the fried conch next time.

More beach time after lunch, and a Pina Colada in a coconut!

Went to the Red Door for late night drinks and dancing. I felt very very much out of place.

Came home late and found someones left overs in the corridor. I thought it was a little gross, but I still had to take a photo.

Nassau, Bahamas

I was actually mid-air when 2014 turned into 2015, a couple of people cheered on the plane, but most of us just wanted to go back to sleep.

I made it to Nassau and the hotel. Got handed a cold beer and a room key and was told to go have fun by myself while waiting for the boys to be done with work.

I have made it into a tradition to go to the beach on new years day, and this year was no exception.

I drank a late lunch.
