Hail!

It has been raining constantly since we left Snow Summit on Sunday, I think it’s great, cos rain in LA means snow in the mountains!
Today we got hail! It was pretty crazy and it went on for the longest time! I got super excited and had to run outside, my co-workers thought I was nuts…

Back to work

Back to work and announcing the relaunch of our online magazine. There’s still some tweaks to be done, some pages that needs to be updated and some optimizing for different browsers, but it’s already way better than the old one. Check it out at www.cbnaturalliving.com

Torekov

Whenever I visit my grandfather, he wants to take me to Torekov.

It’s a sleepy village during the winter season but packed with tourists and summer guests during the summer.

Ive been a million times but I learned something new today;

Once upon a time a Danish queen sent her 3 stepchildren out to see to be killed, one of the kids, Thora was washed up and found by this rock and the village was named after her.

I had traveled 39 hours by plane, car and train, and the FIRST store I stepped into, I found this from my job.

No visit to Bastad is complete without a visit to a “Loppis”.

Ecotrotter

The quarter is over, Yay! Here’s a magazine I made, a budget magazine for people who like to travel green. I tried to use as many of my own images as possible in the magazine.

Typography Love

I have been struggling with the Advanced Typography class this quarter. It has been a drag throughout the class, but I got some good feedback on some of my work today. Here is a couple examples;
– title treatment for my neighborhood

-typography exploration of an adages

One more week of school then I’m off until the first week of January!

My Working Station

Everyone at work got a jar to keep healthy snacks in so we don’t run out of energy throughout the day. We are supposed to fill it up with nuts, but I like popcorn better!

I got a new computer at work, it took all Friday to set it up… the IT guy was supposed to be there at 9am, so he showed up at 11am. Once he was done with his stuff, I could deactivate all the adobe programs on my old computer and install them on the new computer, and give my old machine to the lab which got upgraded from a laptop.
I am happy, it is still not a Mac, but now I have a big 22″ screen, I like it! I can unfortunatley not sow you what I am working on just yet though.

Eco-Friendly Flooring

Got the flooring done for the showroom at work. Cork floor very eco-friendly! Trees are not cut down to make cork flooring. The bark is simply peeled from the cork tree. The tree heals and can provide cork for up to 150 years!
The cork flooring was delivered to us as tiles which we put together like a puzzle.

Donated from Lumber Liquidators.

We have got plenty of time to get this room together for the Grand Opening in May!

A Showroom is Born

Since I havnt done anything too exciting lately, I thought I could give you an update on whats going on at work.
We are opening a Showroom. It is kind of a retail store, but we are not allowed to call it a retail store for some legal reason, so we just call it Showroom.

The Showroom is located right next to the design department, which is cool cos I can sneak over there every now and then to check out the progress. It is also very uncool, cos it gets loud sometimes when the workers knock down walls…

Two rooms will become one

Construction starts on archway between both rooms

Archway is complete!

The grand opening with celebrities and TV coverage is set to be sometime in spring, I will keep you updated 🙂

Monday at work

The best part of working at an in-house design department for a company is that you got to be one of the “cool kids”, it is kind of accepted, if not expected that while everyone else wears heels and skirts, the cool kids at the design department wears trainers and jeans. California Baby is very casual though, and no one wears heels and skirt, but when I came to work this morning, everyone was dressed up and super styled. I had totally forgotten that there was gonna be a photo shoot around the California Baby HQ and that we were gonna be featured on Next New Networks.

An hour before the shoot, I was assigned to do still photography while they were filming. Not a big deal, I have done it before and am kind of used to the deals and rules on when to and when not to shoot while they are filming. But, I wished they would have told me that I was gonna do stills so I could have brought my own camera to work. Now I was stuck with the compact point and shoot camera we have at work.

We finished the shoot 30 minutes before I was supposed to clock out for the day, and they wanted the stills sent out to the PR person at work before the end of the day. Great, I had 30 minutes to narrow down and edit 200 photos.
I am so used to shooting RAW now as well where you have total control over the image in photoshop where you easily can adjust colors and white balance etc. Today I was shooting jpegs and it takes a little longer and to edit the photos.
I was done and left work at 5:05pm though!

Asylum Design

Here is where I’ve spent my Mondays and Thursdays for the past 3 months, it’s a small design studio, but very nice and filled with toys! I wish I could stay!
