Intelligentsia Coffee

I’ve never been a coffee drinker, but there’s a big fuzz around the intelligentsia coffee on Abbott Kinney in Venice, so when my friends wanted to stop by for a cup, I had a taste and it was not all that bad!

Foster the People at the Wiltern

Foster the People are back in town for two sold out shows at the Wiltern.

It was a pretty awesome line up with the Reptar going out first followed by the Cults and then Foster and his Peeps as the headliner. Tons of energy on stage and the best version of Pumped Up Kicks so far!

BevMo!

BevMo is doing the 5 cent sale again so we picked up a cart full of wine! – Most of this is for a wedding though, we’re not gonna drink it all by ourselves…

Grandpa Gunnar

My 96 year old grandpa passed away today, he was an awesome man and a great inspiration to me. Here’s a poem he wrote and sent me when I moved to Los Angeles five and a half years ago. I made a half-ass attempt to translate it as well – my translation is not nearly as good – but you can still get the point.

Struntpratets Lov
Stundom känns behov att prata
På landet eller stadens gata
Då undran, skall man säga nåt’ av vikt
Om religion, politik, samhällsplikt
Nej. Allvarsorden kan bränna till
Det är knappast vad man vill
Samtalet kan då bli genast fryst
Så, kalaset även börja tyst
Ett lekfullt skämt som allom gläder
Eller börja snacka lite väder

Och så en komplimang kan göra susen
Snygga slipsen – fina blusen
Kanske lossnar det då till sist
För nog är det så, helt visst
Att när intet struntprat bliver sagt
Blir det föga social kontakt
Varför skall orden alltid vara så kloka
Låt vardagssnacket flöda, skämta, toka
Att öppna dörrn’ – en uppgift att fylla
Så därför struntpratet man kan hylla
Ja, kanske några frön av enkla glosor
Kan växa till ett fång av rosor

A Praise for Smalltalk
Sometimes you feel the need to talk
On the country side or city street
Then you wonder, should you say somethin’ important
About religion, politic, social duty
No. Serious words can burn
It is hardly what one intended
The conversation can then be frozen
And the party become quiet
A playful joke that makes everyone smile
Or to talk some weather

And compliment can do the trick
Beautiful tie – nice blouse
Perhaps it breaks the ice at last
Isn’t it so, surely
That when no nonsense becometh said
There will be little social contact
Why should the words always be so wise
Let the small talk flow, joke around, be a fool
Opening the door – a responsibility
So you should celebrate the chit-chat
Well, maybe some seeds of simple change of words
Can grow to a bouquet of roses
-Gunnar Axberg

Here’s a photo taken of him this past August.

Culver City is Invaded

We went for dinner in Downtown Culver City tonight and noticed we’ve been invaded! I first thought it was the street artist Space Invader, but it seemed very unusual to him so we took a closer look and it turned out to be an exhibit in collaboration between the City and the International Festival of Independent Games that’s held in Culver City this year.

Going Home From Vegas

I have lost count in how many times I have been in Vegas, but I still had not seen Elvis, or the famous Welcome to Vegas sign. Still haven’t seen Elvis, but at least I got to see the sign today!

Only 257 miles to go!

We stopped by in Baker on the way home and took a photo of the Worlds Tallest Thermometer, which is no longer working…

We can see Downtown Los Angeles, almost home!

Las Vegas

I have friends in town from Sweden and we decided to go to Vegas for the weekend. We stayed at Bally’s Resort & Casino, this was the view from our hotel room;

Getting ready for a night out!

Paris!
