Repetitive Strain Injury

I suffer from repetitive strain injury, it started some 9 or so month ago. My left wrist started to hurt, it hurts like hell from time to time, but there is really nothing I can do about it. I went to the doctor and he told me to cool it with ice, Ive never actually tried that but when it hurts the most I use a wrist band which make it feel a little better. I figured I got it cos I often work in front of the TV with the laptop in my lap. I always thought it was a little weird though, cos it was my left wrist that hurt, and not my right, which i use for the mouse. I have not been thinking too much about it, thought it might had something to do with previous injuries.

The wrist had been fine for 3 months, not been hurting at all, but recently I’ve felt it again, and it was almost unbearable over the weekend. Back to work on Monday, and it totally hit me! It’s all about the keyboard! I was working in a PC environment for the longest time and thats when my wrist started to hurt. Since April, Ive only been working with Mac’s and my wrist has been fine. I recently got a new job and I’m back with working on a PC, and my wrist hurts! Silly you might think, but it is actually true! Check out the keyboards…

I’m using a lot of shortcuts when I work, and on a PC keyboard, you have to press down the Ctrl key. On a Mac, you use the Command/Apple key that is located right next to the space key. See how far apart those keys are and imagine how much easier it is to press the command key on an apple while pressing one, two or three other keys at the same time, compared to how much you must stretch out your hand on a PC keyboard. I have large hands for being a girl, I cant imagine how hard it must be for the girls (and guys) with petite hands!

I tried to reset the shortcuts on the keyboard at work, but I couldt figure out how to do it. I think they should invest in a Mac for me. As it is now, I’m using two hands for the shortcuts so I dont have to stretch, and so whats the point in shortcuts then? The whole purpose with shortcuts is to work quicker, but now I have to remove my right hand from the mouse to do a shortcut. Maybe I should do some calculations on how much faster I would get my work done and present for them that they would actually save on buying me a Mac! Is it possible to use a Mac keyboard on a PC?

To Do!

I made a list of things I need to take care of before I leave for New Zealand on Tuesday night. My weekend is pretty much already booked up so thank goodness I’ve got Tuesday off so I can take care of the last bullets and pack for the trip.
Looking at the photo now, it seems like my laptop really could do with some love as well… I’ll have to take care of that when I get back from NZ.

I put this note up on my door last week to remember to bring my social security card into work. Today I noticed someone had drawn a bunny and a carrot on the note! So cute, but who did it, for how long has it been there, and why a bunny and a carrot?

Sand Dune Park

I’ve been really busy lately. It’s a good thing I suppose, but I havnt been able to do all the things I want to, or need to do. I had the chance to go to the Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach today for a work out though. I’ve been wanting to do it for a while now, as it is a steep sand hill, and it almost feels like hiking in snow!

My goal was to climb it 8 times. After the first lap, I felt really bad and thought that maybe 8 times wasnt doable so I quickly decided to only do 5 laps. It felt good after the second lap and I again set the goal on 8.

The brain kind of fools the body, or if it is the other way around. It’s really hard to hike up, but going down is super easy and fun, when I had done my 8 laps and was standing at the bottom, I really felt I could do two more laps. I soon had to regret it and on top of the hill for the 9th time I was DONE!

The Muppets

On Saturday nights during the summer weeks, they show classic movies at the Hollywood Forever cemetery, it is a little creepy watching a movie at the cemetery, but it is lots of fun! There is a dj playing before and after the movie and people bring picnic. Everyone is happy and it’s a great atmosphere, a nice way to spend a Saturday night!
This Saturday they showed the Muppet Movie and everyone was super excited! My friend got to the cemetery two hours before the movie to get us a good spot. Unfortunately, it turned out that just about every single person in Los Angeles wanted to see the movie so it was sold out by the time he got to the gates. We were all a little bummed out for a minute, we had planned such a great evening!
But… it didnt take long before someone went to Blockbusters to rent the movie and we all meet up at a friends place and had our own picnic and big screen movie screening!

Elton John is visiting the Muppets!

We had two birthday girls so we paused the movie for some cake, Kermit loved it!

A great move and an awesome night!

Me and Kermit, you can call us Lea…

Happy Birthday!

It was my friends birthday, and what would be better than to spend the night at the beach with picnic and chill to a free concert at Santa Monica Pier?

The police was there with their beautiful horses… (I still want to train police horses, and should probably look into that some day)

…to make sure this would not happen.

They are actually pretty liberal about it on Thursday nights, they let you drink, as long as it is out of plastic cups (no glass allowed on the beach). One officer came by us once and I thought we would have our wine taken away from us, but they just asked us to blow out the candles that we had lit.
Birthday girl!

The end.

Eagle Rock Hike

August 4th is sneaking up on me so I decided to do two hikes this weekend. Sunday hike was hot, but not as bad as Saturday, and only 2 hours round trip.

Eagle Rock, our goal!

We found some cool caves with paintings.

The path down took us through all kinds of vegetable.

A mile from home we found a water fountain, yey for cooling down!

Santa Ynez Canyon Hike

We had planned to do a different hike today, but changed our minds in the parking lot at the trail head, it is always a little confusing with the hikes cos they dont mark the trails very well. We saw a sign for a waterfall and thought that sounded cool, so we took that path. We had to look out for poison oak and ticks today.

Area closed for plant rehabilitation, yeah, good luck with that… maybe you should consider feeding them some water as well then!

Interesting spiderweb!

We found a cave,

must explore!

A treasure box!

Someone had left it there a while ago and you were supposed to take one thing out and leave a different item for the next person who found the box. We didnt have anything to leave behind, but we tagged the box with our websites 🙂

We never found the waterfall, but we found a creek where the water once have been.

Poison Oak, so beautiful, but oh so no no!

The hike was a little over 3 hours long, and this was the first time I really felt it and got tired in my legs. It was extremely hot, and I had a good work out at the Santa Monica stairs yesterday, plus I woke up at 8am in my bed with the cloths still on from the night before to the text message “I’ll be at your place in 30 minutes”.
Almost back where we started we found this tree. I checked if it grew fresh lemonade like in Pippi Longstocking, but we were not that lucky.

Crusaders & Haters

We went to an art show last night, it had a superheroes theme, lots of people and lots of fun!

Beers and fries at Fathers Office after the show. Fathers Office has got lots of fun and different beers on tap, a great place to go to try something new, and the fries are oh so good!

I dropped my phone in a sink full of water, I dont know what I was trying to do… call someone and wash my hands at the same time? While I was just staring at it, my friend quickly fished it up and saved it. I later found this photo of me in my phone that he sneaked in.

Twilight Dance Series & Turtle Race

On Thursday nights throughout the summer, there is free concerts on Santa Monica Pier. It was the first time we were there so we came a little unprepared, next time we will bring a picnic and camp out on the beach.

Thursday nights are also turtle race night at Brennan’s Pub, it is kind of a college crowd hanging out at the races. It has been going on for many years and I am surprised it hasn’t gotten shut down from animal rights activists yet.

The rules have obviously been set up by guys and it is totally humiliated… you are not allowed to bend your knees when you drop the turtle.

Girls with short skirts are crowd pleasers and even though they drop the turtle the first time perfectly fine without bending the knees, the staff (guys off course) throws in the penalty flag and they have to do it over and over again…

You are allowed to bring your own turtle to the race, so I will catch one from the wild one day and race it!

Amoeba Records

I used to be able to spend hours and hours in record stores, and I used to spend hundreds and hundreds of $$ on music every month. After moving to LA, I have not been exposed to music the way I used to. I have recently tried to catch up a little though, I was considering not bothering buying cd’s and instead start downloading music from the world wide web. A friend talked me out of it though, and I am gonna continue being old fashioned for a little while.
I went to Amoeba Records today, which is the record store in Los Angeles. As I said, I used to be able to spend hours and hours in record stores, but my attention span have recently turned into zero, and I get bored. I much rather buy the cd’s online and get them shipped to me now.
Anyways, I had to go to the store today to pick up an vinyl for a school project.

But off course, it is a record store, and there is no way I would leave the store empty handed, I found the latest Easy Star All-Stars album that Ive been wanting for a while… They have in the passed released an album called Radiodread which is Radioheads Ok Computer and another album called Dub Side On the Moon which covers Pink Floyds Dark Side On the Moon. The latest album is called Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band, and is yeah, a reggae versions of the Beatles famous album! How can that possible go wrong?
