We went to KCRW Live show at the Who Shot Rock & Roll exhibit at the Annenberg Space for Photography. It was a tribute night for T-Rex and Portugal the Man was playing live. The there was a huge line for the actual photo exhibit so we didn’t make it in, we’ll have to come back another day.
We headed to the Bar 107 downtown to send our friend Ina away to her Masters Program with a party.
They had a photo booth. It was an awesome night!
Saturday Night
The belt broke on my scooter on my way to work the other day, it is apparently really easy to fix yourself, but I took it in to the shop, just to be on the safe side.
I had a super mellow night at home last night, and I was just about to go to bed at midnight when I got a text from my room mate who was on his way home and asked if I was still awake.
3 hours and two bottles of wine later…
Levitated Mass
I went to see Andrew Byron speak about 3D typography at the A+D Museum, it was super inspirational!
The museum also had a student typography exhibit that was really cool!
After the typography event, we walked over to LACMA to see the Levitated Mass, they had some kind of event at LACMA with a lot of people – that apparently could not read.
The famous Levitated Mass – a hugh rock!
Taken from the LACMA website: Levitated Mass by artist Michael Heizer is composed of a 456-foot-long slot constructed on LACMA’s campus, over which is placed a 340-ton granite megalith. The slot gradually descends to fifteen feet in depth, running underneath the boulder. As with other works by the artist, such as Double Negative (1969), the monumental negative form is key to the experience of the artwork.
Here’s a video of the mass being transported into the Museum.
The Heavy at the Bootleg
We had tickets to go see The Heavy at the Bootleg Theatre. I wasn’t expecting much since I don’t care too much about their music.
Wake Up Lucid was the first band on, they were really good, I would definitely go see them again!
The next band on were The Skins, a bunch of kids (they’re all under 21 – drummer was only 13!) from Brooklyn, they were amazing!
Last on were The Heavy, and they were pretty lame after such a great performance from The Skins.
Midsummer Party
Midsummer is a big deal in Sweden. I invited a few friends over to celebrate and introduce them to Pickled Herring.
I made a smörgåstårta (Sandwich Cake) as well.
I had herring for the second time in my life.
Herring plate with fresh potatoes, sour cream and chives.
Guests had made their own flavored snaps that we all tried out.
Never been a big fan of the snaps, I’m just drinking it because it is a tradition. The icy glasses were very cool though.
We didn’t have a midsummer pole to dance around, but we do have this traffic cone in the living room that got to serve as a midsummer pole so we got to dance the Little Frog dance!
Some guests arrived later, just in time for the leftovers/midnight snack!
