I have realized a lot of people have a lot of opinions and like to complain, but when it comes down to it, they are to lazy or “busy” or they don’t wanna take any responsibility, so they don’t really do anything about it.
I grew up in Sweden and I was, and still am, super proud of Sweden. I did a fair amount of traveling when I was younger so I have seen some of the things that works and not work in Sweden vs other countries. When I spoke to people while traveling everyone seem to envy me, I was lucky that I was born and grew up in a safe, clean and modern country.
I have lived 1/4th of my life in US of A, and more precisely, Los Angeles. While I think Los Angeles is kind of awesome, it’s not safe, clean or anything remote to modern. I really do think the system here is broken.
I have a lot of opinions when it comes to human rights and the environment and what really broke me was all the filth. It’s so freaking dirty in Los Angeles. I don’t wanna live in a dump, I wanna be proud of where I live. I want to take friends and family that come to visit around and show off a clean and beautiful city. Seriously, it’s not that difficult to clean up after yourself. Also, since Los Angeles is just off the Pacific Ocean, all our filth end up poisoning the ocean.
I live in Palms Neighborhood, together with about 30 000 other angelinos. I wanted to be involved in the neighborhood, making it safer and cleaner. I thought I’d ease myself into it so I liked their faceboook page and a little over a month ago responded to a “Sign up to volunteer” post. I had no idea what I signed up to. All of a sudden I was assigned the Election Chair. I have been going to meetings and learned a lot. It is a ton of fun, and really not that difficult to make a difference, just take 2 hours of your life, go to a meeting and raise your opinion!
We have a board election in May, and as the Election Chair, I have to make sure people sign up and run for the board seats and then campaign for people to actually go and vote.
